Syria

Syria is a state in the Middle East that borders Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Turkey.

The war in Syria has been going on since 2011, when citizens took to the streets against the regime of dictator Bashar al-Assad. However, they did not achieve the democracy they wanted, but faced war and destruction. Turkey, the US, Russia and Iran entered the conflict. The last two countries defended the Assad regime, the first two – the rebels.

In 2024, the group "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham" launched an offensive against Syrian government forces. On December 8, 2024, the Assad regime fell, and the dictator fled to Russia.

In January 2025, Ahmed al-Sharaa – leader of the rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) – became transitional President of Syria.
