The Baturyn Tragedy
Punitive actions by Muscovite troops to capture and destroy Baturyn, the capital of Hetman Mazepa, and its inhabitants.
The event took place on November 2, 1708. During these actions, all the inhabitants of the town were massacred, regardless of age and sex. According to various estimates, between 11 and 15 thousand residents of Baturyn were killed.
