The Downing of the A-50 Aircraft
On the evening of January 14, 2024, over the waters of the Sea of Azov, the Ukrainian military struck two Russian aircraft, an A-50 and an Il-22. Both of them were destroyed as a result of the operation.
On the evening of February 23, 2024, it became known that the Defense Forces had managed to bring down another one – an A-50U.
The A-50 is an airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft. It was created to detect and track air and surface targets and to alert troops about the air and surface situation.
