The Gas Conflict
Due to the lack of an agreement on the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine, some European countries may be left without gas. The current transit contract between Naftogaz and Gazprom expires on December 31, 2019, so the parties must conclude a new agreement by January 1, 2020.
Zelenskyy wants to resolve the gas conflict with Russia before the contract officially expires. However, Russia has in no way shown that it is inclined towards productive negotiations. Instead, active construction of the scandalous Russian Nord Stream 2 continues. This gas pipeline will supply gas to Europe bypassing Ukraine. Russia is also working on TurkStream, which has the same goal.
