The Kateryna Handziuk Case
On July 31 in Kherson, acid was thrown at well-known activist and executive secretary of the executive committee of the Kherson City Council Kateryna Handziuk. The woman suffered burns to 30% of her body. Doctors fought for the activist's life, but later – on November 4 – she died in hospital from her burns.
As for the punishment of those responsible, on June 6, 2019, the court sentenced 5 accomplices in the crime: the coordinator of the attack Serhii Torbin to 6.5 years in prison, the attacker Mykyta Hrabchuk to 6 years, those involved in the attack Volodymyr Vasianovych and Viacheslav Vyshnevskyi to 4 years each, and Viktor Horbunov to 3 years.
Those who ordered the crime have still not been identified or punished. The lawyers believe that the murder was ordered by the head of the Kherson Regional Council Vladyslav Manher and Ihor Pavlovskyi.
