The Scandal Surrounding Rocket Engines
On August 14, 2017, the influential American publication The New York Times published an article in which the authors cited the work of International Institute for Strategic Studies expert Michael Elleman and wrote about the possible supply of Ukrainian rocket engines produced by "Pivdenmash" to North Korea.
Elleman's research is based on data from US intelligence services, but Elleman himself later stated that in his work he named "Ukrainian engines" as one of the potential options.
Ukrainian officials, in particular Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council Oleksandr Turchynov and Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, denied any supplies of weapons or military technology to North Korea. The information was also refuted by "Pivdenmash" itself.
