The movement of footballers from one team to another. In Western Europe, there are two transfer windows, winter and summer. However, in England and Eastern Europe, the time frames are different.

The club that owns the rights to a footballer is entitled to receive compensation.

Sometimes, in addition to money, another footballer can be obtained as part of a transfer.
