Tuapse

Tuapse is a city in Russia's Krasnodar Krai that is home to an oil refinery.

The Tuapse oil refinery is of great importance to the Kremlin and to waging war against Ukraine, as it is the only Russian refinery located on the Black Sea coast. It produces fuel for the Russian military and plays an important role in oil exports via the Black Sea.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the Tuapse refinery is one of the largest oil refineries in southern Russia. It processes approximately 12 million tons of oil per year.

The Defense Forces of Ukraine have attacked the refinery in Tuapse many times. In particular, the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported attacks on April 16, April 20, April 28, May 1 and May 27, 2026. As a result of the first two attacks, tanks and oil pipelines caught fire, 24 oil storage tanks were destroyed and four more were damaged. What's more, the Tuapse refinery halted operations "indefinitely". After the April 28 attack, the Tuapse refinery caught fire.

There is also an environmental disaster in Tuapse. In particular, oil rain fell there on April 20, and on April 28 the evacuation of residents living near Tuapse began.

On May 1, the Ukrainian military hit the refinery's infrastructure, causing explosions and a fire. An attack on the night of May 27, 2026, hit the Tuapse oil refinery, where a fire and smoke were recorded.
