Unity Day
Unity Day of Ukraine is celebrated annually on January 22.
On this day in 1919, the Act of Unification between the UPR and the WUPR was proclaimed on Sofiiska Square in Kyiv. This landmark event confirmed the age-old aspirations of Ukrainians to live in a single, indivisible state.
On January 22, 1990, a living chain of unity – the "Ukrainian Wave" – was formed between Kyiv and Lviv to mark the 71st anniversary of the proclamation of the Act of Unification of the UPR and the WUPR. According to various estimates, from 500 thousand to 3 million Ukrainians took part in the event. Now every year on January 22, the "Living Chain of Unity" event takes place.
