Unusually Cold Temperatures in the U.S.

Arctic frosts covered the northern, eastern and midwestern US states and Canada at the end of January 2019.Winter storm Jayden is raging there. The air temperature has dropped to -30 degrees Celsius, and in some places the frost reaches -50.

A state of emergency has been declared in five US states. More than twenty people have already died of hypothermia. In some states, schools, government institutions, museums and zoos are closed. Warming centers have opened on the streets of American cities. Public transport is not running, and thousands of flights have been canceled.
