"Yellow Vests" Protests
The "yellow vests" protests began in France. The first action took place on November 17, 2018. Drivers protested against rising fuel prices, an environmental tax, and also against the "unfair government policy" that undermines the purchasing power of the population. The spontaneous movement of those dissatisfied with rising fuel prices emerged on social networks. Protesters recognize each other by the yellow safety vests they place under the windshields of their cars. But what started as drivers' discontent has turned into a protest movement of citizens of different countries against price increases not only for fuel. People oppose rising tariffs for electricity and water supply, as well as food prices, and demand affordable housing, etc. Besides France, "yellow vests" protests have already taken place in Belgium, the Netherlands, Greece, the United Kingdom, Israel and Poland.
