Chornobyl: 40 Years Since the Disaster is a Channel 24 project dedicated to the anniversary of the accident at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
The Chornobyl disaster happened on April 26, 1986, when the fourth power unit of the nuclear power plant exploded twice.
The Chornobyl liquidators put out the fire and tried to contain the disaster. Over all the years, approximately 600 thousand people tried to deal with the consequences of the accident. They received radiation doses that led to death, serious illnesses or consequences for their children born after the disaster.
In the project Chornobyl: 40 Years Since the Disaster, Channel 24 tells important facts about that time:
- stories of the liquidators;
- accounts of children of that time and those born after the accident;
- the causes of the Chornobyl accident;
- photos that show the truth;
- confessions of medical liquidators;
- little-known explanations by historians about the hidden secrets of the Chornobyl accident and how the USSR tried to cover it up.
