Doomsday Clock
The Doomsday Clock is a project of the American scientific journal Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, established in 1947.
The clock shows the symbolic time left for humanity before a global catastrophe (that is, before midnight). It has been reset 26 times. As of December 2025, the clock shows 23:58:31, meaning it stands just 89 seconds to midnight.
Each time, the decision to reset the Doomsday Clock in Chicago is made by the journal's board of directors and invited experts, including 18 Nobel Prize laureates.
The clock was last reset on January 28, 2025, in view of the climate crisis, nuclear weapons, artificial intelligence, infectious diseases and the war in Ukraine and in the Middle East.
