Klitschko Bridge

The pedestrian and cycling bridge connects Volodymyrska Hill and Khreshchatyi Park in Kyiv.

Popularly, the structure was nicknamed "Klitschko Bridge" because it was built on the initiative and in record time precisely during Vitali Klitschko's term as mayor.

Its length is 210 meters, and the height of the supports exceeds 30 meters in various places.

The cost of building the bridge, as well as strengthening the slopes and reconstructing the Volodymyrska Hill park, exceeded 400 million hryvnias.

The construction of the bridge was accompanied by a number of scandals. First, UNESCO advised the Kyiv authorities not to build the structure because of the construction work's immediate proximity to the protection zone of Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Later, Swiss architects claimed unlawful use of their design, which they had submitted to a competition in 2013.

The grand opening of the pedestrian and cycling bridge took place on the evening of May 25, 2019. Less than a day after the opening, it became known that one of several glass panels had been damaged. However, it was promptly replaced the very next day.
