Marco Rubio – US Secretary of State since January 20, 2025, during Donald Trump's second term. This is the highest diplomatic post in the US, so it is Rubio who will be the president's chief adviser.
An American politician of Cuban descent, a member of the Republican Party, he was a senator from the state of Florida.
Rubio is far from the worst option for Ukraine as Secretary of State, as he has repeatedly spoken out against Putin and China. He stated that Russia is the aggressor.
At the same time, over almost 3 years Rubio changed his rhetoric. Now he says that Ukraine needs negotiations with Russia, and he cannot name a time frame for ending the war, but is confident that each side will have to concede "something". Rubio was also one of the Republican senators who voted against the 61 billion dollar military aid package for Ukraine.
