Missing
Servicemen who took part in hostilities and about whom nothing has been known for a long time are considered missing. They have the so-called "status 500", meaning there is no confirmation of either the person's death or survival. So it is quite likely that they are in captivity.
In April 2025, the Commissioner for Persons Missing under Special Circumstances, Artur Dobroserdov, said that since the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, approximately 63 thousand people had been entered into the Unified Register of Missing Persons. For 10 thousand of them, there is confirmation that they are in captivity.
He explained that a person remains in the register until they are released from captivity or until their body is identified.
It is worth noting that during the large "1000 for 1000" prisoner exchange, hundreds of Ukrainians returned home. Deputy Head of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War Andrii Yusov said on June 19, 2025, that specific figures on how many people had been exchanged would be announced when all stages of the exchange were completed.
