
Shipwreck involving Ukrainians off the coast of Turkey
On January 7, a merchant vessel sailing under the flag of Panama sank off the coast of Samsun province in Turkey. In total, there were 13 people on board, 11 of whom were citizens of Ukraine. Citizens of Azerbaijan were also on board.As a result, seven people survived, and rescuers found six dead. According to the Ukrainian Ambassador to Turkey, Andrii Sybiha, four citizens of Ukraine are among the dead. As the head of the Consular Support Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Vasyl Kyrylych, said, the other crew members have been hospitalized in hospitals in the city of Samsun and are under proper supervision.The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that the vessel sank as a result of a wave impact, after which it could not withstand it and broke apart.
