The Murder of Pavel Sheremet
Belarusian, Russian and Ukrainian journalist Pavel Sheremet was killed on the morning of July 20, 2016, in central Kyiv. Explosives had been planted under the car he was driving. The investigation of this case lasted more than three years; more than 3,000 people were questioned and 47 forensic examinations were carried out.
On December 12, 2019, law enforcement officers announced the results of the investigation. 5 people are suspected of organizing Sheremet's murder. Among them are Yana Duhar, a combat medic of the 25th Airborne Brigade; Yuliia Kuzmenko, a volunteer and military medic; Andrii Antonenko, a veteran of the war in Donbas and a musician; Vladyslav Hryshchenko, a veteran of the war in Donbas with the call sign "Bucha"; and Inna Hryshchenko, his wife, a servicewoman with the call sign "Puma".
On December 13, Kyiv's Pecherskyi District Court chose preventive measures for all three detainees: custody until February 8, 2020, for Yuliia Kuzmenko and Andrii Antonenko, and round-the-clock house arrest until the same date for Yana Duhar.
The next stage of the investigation is to find out the name of whoever ordered the crime.
