VLK News

The Military Medical Commission (VLK) is a commission of doctors who, after an examination, determine whether a citizen of Ukraine is fit or unfit for service.

While martial law is in effect in Ukraine, some persons liable for military service must undergo the VLK.

In August 2024, the National Security and Defense Council held a meeting on corruption in military medical commissions in Ukraine. The authorities promised a reform of the VLK.

What has changed in the VLK?

Persons liable for military service who had been of limited fitness before May 4, 2024, had to undergo the VLK again. After all, by June 5, 2024, they had to be declared fit, fit for service in the TCC and SS, temporarily unfit or unfit.

Persons liable for military service are also interested in how to appeal a VLK decision. In particular, a pre-trial procedure within 30 days or through the courts is possible.

In January 2025, electronic referrals to the VLK via Reserve+ began to operate.

If there is a deferment or exemption, a person liable for military service does not have to undergo the VLK.

The VLK does not need to be undergone often – the decision is valid for a year. There is also a list of diseases that determine the fitness category of a person liable for military service.
