Yevgeniy Khmara has been Minister of Defense of Ukraine since August 19, 2026, following the dismissal of Mykhailo Fedorov.
From January 2026 he served as acting head of the SBU, replacing Vasyl Maliuk.
From August 25, 2025, Yevgeniy Khmara was head of the Special Operations Center "A" of the Security Service of Ukraine.
He has been a major general since June 2024. It is known that it was Yevgeniy Khmara who led the operation to liberate Snake Island from the Russians in 2022.
