Greta Thunberg

Greta Thunberg is a 16-year-old Swedish political activist who advocates stopping global warming and climate change. In August 2018, she became known for starting the first school strike for climate outside the Swedish parliament building. In November 2018, she spoke at TEDxStockholm, in December she addressed the UN Climate Change Conference, and in January 2019 she was invited to the World Economic Forum in Davos. Time magazine named Greta one of the 25 most influential teenagers in the world in 2018.

Her mother is Swedish opera singer Malena Ernman, who represented Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2009, and her father is actor Svante Thunberg.

When Greta started her pickets near the Swedish parliament, she forbade her mother to come with her in order to avoid accusations of lacking independence or of someone using her for their own purposes. However, such accusations were made anyway. For example, Angela Merkel publicly stated that the environmental protests that swept Germany were part of Russia's hybrid war.

Greta is also accused of a connection with PR specialist Ingmar Rentzhog, who, using Greta's name, raised about 1 million dollars for his startup. The accusations are based on the fact that Greta communicated with Rentzhog and for some time was on the youth council of his organization. However, Greta stated that she has nothing to do with Ingmar's fundraising.

In October 2019, British scientists named a new species of beetle after Greta Thunberg.
