BRICS

BRICS is an international organization of developing countries that are the largest by area and population.

In 2001, Goldman Sachs investment bank economist Jim O'Neill proposed the acronym BRIC to denote Brazil, Russia, India and China. In 2006, they united into BRIC. Since 2010, when South Africa joined, – into BRICS.

From January 1, 2024, 5 more countries joined BRICS: Saudi Arabia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia and Egypt.

Experts are convinced that Russia uses BRICS as part of its struggle against the West, which helps it cope with sanctions imposed over the full-scale war in Ukraine.
