Without Ukraine: The US, China, and Russia May Discuss a Plan to End the War, According to Media Reports
U.S. President’s Special Representative Steve Witkoff has proposed holding a summit between the U.S., China, and Russia on the war in Ukraine. Talks between Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, and Xi Jinping could take place without Kyiv’s participation.
According to Financial News, talks between the leaders are planned for November during the APEC summit in Shenzhen. The parties are expected to discuss proposals to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Peace Talks Without Ukraine
The initiative is already being compared to the 1945 Yalta Conference, as Ukraine – the country against which the war is being waged – may be left out of the negotiations.
Kremlin adviser Yuri Ushakov confirmed discussions on a trilateral format following Steve Witkoff’s meeting with Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg.
At the same time, the United States has already criticized the idea of holding a meeting without Ukrainian participation. According to media reports, a number of Republicans have spoken out against a scenario that would “repeat the Yalta Conference.”
Senator Bill Cassidy called such a proposal morally wrong and reckless, and emphasized that Ukraine’s participation in any negotiations is mandatory.
Senator Tom Tillis expressed another critical view, warning against manipulation by the Kremlin. According to him, the Russian dictator is trying to manipulate the American leader as if he were a puppet.
Incidentally, the Kremlin does not expect a swift end to the war in Ukraine even following the meeting between Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump, and Xi Jinping. Officials there stated that it is impossible to resolve all contentious issues in a single round of negotiations.
