Nuclear Weapons

Nuclear weapons – are weapons of mass destruction whose components have blast, thermal and radioactive effects.

9 countries in the world possess nuclear weapons. In particular, they are held by the USA, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, China, India, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel. In addition, Iran is developing them despite sanctions.

The danger of nuclear weapons is obvious, as they cause mechanical injuries and burns. Radiation also has a negative effect on people and everything around them.

Russia's threats

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has repeatedly threatened to strike Ukraine with nuclear weapons.

However, the USA and Europe call for restraint and criticise Putin's statements.

Ukraine's nuclear weapons

Ukraine had nuclear weapons until 1994 and gave them up by signing the Budapest Memorandum. Among the signatories was Russia, which did not honour the agreements and started a war against Ukraine.

At present, Ukraine could theoretically restore its nuclear status, but this requires money, technology and permission, since Kyiv signed the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
