On August 25, 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the armed forces of Belarus, under the guise of exercises, were concentrating personnel and equipment in the Gomel region near Ukraine's northern borders. The ministry urges Minsk not to make mistakes that would be tragic for its own country under pressure from Moscow, and its armed forces to stop unfriendly actions and withdraw their troops.
In May 2026, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Oleksandr Syrskyi said that an offensive from Belarus was possible. In particular, Russia could advance on the Chernihiv and Kyiv regions.
