"The enemy may only clear mines on the roads leading toward Russia in Oleshky," Zelenskyy said
On Tuesday, October 27, a “ceasefire” will go into effect in the occupied town of Oleshky. The president emphasized that the Russians will not agree to unconditionally release people into government-controlled territory.
It is likely that the occupiers will clear only the routes leading into Russia. Zelenskyy said this in an interview with host Alla Mazur.
What did the president say?
The head of state said that the U.S. had proposed introducing a “ceasefire” in the Oleshky area starting October 27. The ceasefire will last several days to allow for a humanitarian mission. Americans, Ukrainians, and Russians will be present in the city.
During the “ceasefire,” the Russians are to clear the roads of mines and evacuate local residents. The president spoke with the ombudsman, the Security Service, and military officials.
“Of course, Russia will do everything it can to clear the roads of mines so that these people head toward Russia and stay there. They certainly won’t just let the people go,”
– Zelenskyy emphasized.
He stressed that some of the people will be evacuated to territory controlled by Ukraine in one way or another. The head of state noted that the main thing is to free the people and save lives.
Ideally, they should be able to reach their destination and evacuate here, to us, to Ukraine, which will provide them with everything they need and support them,
– the president emphasized.
He added that Russia will certainly use the “ceasefire” to carry out provocations and spread its own propaganda.
