Russia and Ukraine have agreed on a ceasefire in Oleshky
Ukraine and Russia have agreed to temporarily suspend hostilities in Oleshky to allow for the delivery of humanitarian aid and to prepare for the evacuation of civilians. The agreements were reached thanks to the efforts of Melania Trump.
According to the White House, the agreed-upon arrangements call for the creation of a safe corridor for the civilian population.
Rescue of Oleshky Residents
The parties have committed to ensuring a complete ceasefire in Oleshky for the duration of the evacuation.
The local ceasefire is set to begin on October 29, 2026.
Oleshky residents have limited access to electricity, live amid mined roads, and endure regular attacks. It was quite obvious that without my intervention, it would have been impossible to deliver humanitarian aid to the city and evacuate the elderly,
Melania Trump said.
It is noted that the First Lady of the United States, acting as a mediator, agreed with the Ukrainian and Russian sides on the mission’s objectives, technical procedures, processes, timelines, and conditions.
According to Trump, representatives from both countries will visit the homes of Oleshky residents to determine what kind of assistance they need. If necessary and if the residents wish, they will help those who want to leave for a safer place.
An American media organization will cover the process, the statement said.
The Situation in the Blockaded Area
We previously reported that thousands of civilians remained trapped in Oleshky and the surrounding villages, including at least 200 children.
The situation in the town has remained critical for a long time due to mined roads, a lack of communications, and shortages of medicine and food.
The Ukrainian military has repeatedly used drones to deliver humanitarian aid to the local population.
