News from Kherson

Kherson is one of the key strategic cities in Russia's 2022 war against Ukraine.

On March 1, 2022, Russia occupied Kherson. It is the only regional centre that the occupiers have managed to seize since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. This was preceded by fierce fighting and rallies by locals who opposed the occupation. In the autumn of 2022, the Armed Forces of Ukraine began a counteroffensive and approached the occupied city. In November, experts began to note that the de-occupation of the city was very likely by the end of 2022.

Kherson news today – what is happening in the temporarily occupied city and Kherson region

On the morning of November 9, Russian troops blew up key bridges in the right-bank part of Kherson region and themselves stated that they were waiting for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In the afternoon of the same day, reports appeared that one of the so-called leaders of the occupation "administration" of Kherson, Kirill Stremousov, had died in a road accident.

Later, information appeared that the occupiers were leaving Kherson. Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu ordered the withdrawal of Russian troops across the Dnipro River. The Ukrainian authorities are critical of such statements and will respond to the occupiers' concrete actions, not words, which may be a staged cover for provocations.

The temporarily occupied city continues its struggle. Read the latest news from Kherson on Channel 24.
