A possible meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin became known during talks between Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders at the White House on August 18, 2025. In particular, during the conversation the US president stepped out and phoned Vladimir Putin. The Russian president agreed to hold a meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and after that in a trilateral format with the US leader.
The final date of the meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin is currently unknown. The venue is also being discussed. Among the options are Budapest, Rome and Geneva.
After a series of talks about a possible meeting, on June 15 Volodymyr Zelenskyy offered Putin to meet during the G7 summit (to be held on June 15 – 17, 2026, in France).
