"Putin is leading Trump by the nose": Republican senator outraged by Trump's remarks on the war in Ukraine
U.S. Senator Tom Tillis criticized Donald Trump's attempts to downplay Russian war crimes in Ukraine. The senator called the Russian dictator a murderer.
The politician warned the U.S. against making dangerous concessions. He made these remarks during an appearance on CNN.
What did Tillis say?
On Tuesday, October 20, Tom Tillis criticized the U.S. president for saying that “Russia is behaving normally in Ukraine” and isn’t doing “all that much.” He said that Vladimir Putin is “leading Donald Trump by the nose.”
The Republican senator recalled his trip to Kharkiv, where he saw the consequences of Russian aggression with his own eyes. According to him, the devastated civilian stores, gas stations, and educational institutions reveal the true nature of the Kremlin’s actions.
The politician noted that there were a great many Russian drones in Kharkiv. He expressed outrage at attempts to downplay the daily crimes committed by the occupying forces against the Ukrainian people.
He is a murderer. And “doesn’t do much” – what does that mean? Did he kill only 20 or 30 people a day instead of a thousand? My God, even a single life taken by Vladimir Putin is already too many. And President Trump should understand that,
Tillis emphasized.
The lawmaker added that history will judge the United States extremely harshly if the country refuses to stand up for the Western world and allows the dictator to achieve his goals. Furthermore, he considers the idea of a possible summit involving Donald Trump, Xi Jinping, and Putin to be absurd, since Moscow and Beijing are united by a shared desire to dominate the world.
As a reminder, on Monday, October 19, Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke with senators from both parties. The President of Ukraine called on politicians to influence Donald Trump in order to unblock military support and intelligence data.
