Zelenskyy outlined Ukraine's position in the negotiations with the US and Russia in November
A meeting of the negotiating teams from Ukraine, the United States, and Russia will take place in November. The president emphasized that the main goal of the consultations is to prepare for a summit between the leaders.
The Ukrainian leader spoke about this in an interview with "TSN."
What did Zelenskyy say?
The president noted that diplomats are currently coordinating the venue for the November meeting of the negotiating teams. Among the possible options being considered are Abu Dhabi, other locations in the Middle East, or one of the European capitals.
The U.S. side has already confirmed the agreement to hold consultations in November. The U.S. also received confirmation from Volodymyr Putin.
The Ukrainian president emphasized that Kyiv will also insist on involving Europe in the negotiation process to discuss next steps. He stressed that the mere fact of a meeting between representatives of the three countries is not a sufficient outcome for Ukraine.
“For us, the most important outcome is the opportunity for a trilateral meeting at the leadership level,”
– Zelenskyy stated.
Among the specific issues to be discussed in November, the Ukrainian side highlights an energy ceasefire and security in the Black Sea. According to the head of state, these agreements would create conditions for more stable economic functioning and restore full-scale grain exports.
The return of prisoners of war remains a separate priority. Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted the recent exchange but emphasized that resolving the issue and achieving an “all-for-all” exchange requires negotiations at the highest level.
“This is a fairly large exchange, but it is not the kind of exchange we need: so far, it is not ‘everyone for everyone,’
the president explained.
The head of state also spoke about a meeting in Oslo with an American delegation led by U.S. Special Presidential Representative Steve Vitkoff. The president said that following consultations in Norway, the American representatives traveled to St. Petersburg, where they discussed the willingness of both sides to participate in a trilateral format.
