The War in Donbas
- 7 October
1 October
Since 2014, the eastern part of Ukraine has been under Russian occupation. As a result of Russia's provocations, self-proclaimed and unrecognized separatist republics, whose leadership is subordinate to Russia, were formed in the occupied Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
For 8 years now, Ukraine has been trying to regain the occupied territories, while the war in Donbas unleashed by the aggressor country continues. Since February 17, 2022, Russian militants have stepped up their activity and are shelling the territory in the East, passing it off as crimes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
War in Ukraine – latest news
In early February, Western media began reporting that Russia was allegedly planning a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. According to foreign media, the full-scale war in Ukraine was supposed to begin on February 16, 2022.
But the invasion did not happen that day. Russian forces stepped up their activity the next day, violating the ceasefire several dozen times. On the same day, the first provocations began, with which Russia is trying to discredit Ukraine:
Shelling of a kindergarten in Stanytsia Luhanska,
A shell fired into a house in Stanytsia Luhanska,
Shelling of a school in the Luhansk region.
For every crime committed by the Russian occupiers, the Russian authorities unsuccessfully try to blame the Ukrainian forces. According to Russian officials, it is supposedly Ukraine that is planning a full-scale war.
As of February 21, the number of provocations by the Russian occupiers had grown to several dozen, and shelling (involving large-caliber weapons prohibited by the Minsk agreements) had been heard in the East thousands of times.
Reaction of other countries to the war
Although Western countries and media report a significant deterioration of the situation and a likely Russian invasion, the news from Ukraine is not so grim – the war in the East continues, and the Armed Forces of Ukraine are holding their positions and not reacting to enemy provocations.
More than 30 countries have already declared their support for the Ukrainian military. Allied countries are ready to provide Ukraine with:
Military,
Practical,
Political,
And declarative support.
NATO has also declared its readiness to help. At the same time, the organization added that it would not send troops into the country. US President Joseph Biden said the same – instead, the US is sending Ukraine military support.
Countries around the world have also announced tough sanctions against Russia. A number of sanctions against the Russian authorities have been in force since 2015.
In these difficult times it is worth remembering that Russia is trying to divide Ukrainians and seize as much territory as possible. There is no need to panic or react to the provocations of the Russian occupiers – Ukrainian soldiers have been protecting our peace for 8 years and have everything under control.
