"Trump Is Acting Like a Pro-Russian Agent": How Deals with the Kremlin Might Enrich the US President

Donald Trump’s decisions regarding Russia are increasingly raising questions about whether the White House is truly guided by U.S. interests. Against the backdrop of purchases of Russian fuel, the easing of sanctions, and talk of Ukraine’s frozen assets, another question arises: Is the U.S. president turning foreign policy into a tool for his own enrichment?

Donald Trump’s decisions regarding Russia are increasingly raising questions about whether the White House is truly guided by U.S. interests. Against the backdrop of Russian fuel purchases, the easing of sanctions, and talk of Ukraine’s frozen assets, another question arises: Is the U.S. president turning foreign policy into a tool for his own enrichment?

Andriy Gorodnitsky, Ph.D. and political expert, explained in an interview with Channel 24 who stands to profit by the billions from deals with Russia and why Trump’s decisions could be a lifeline for the Russian budget. The expert also discussed what is happening behind the scenes at the White House, why even the president’s allies might distance themselves from him, and whether political problems could push Trump toward a new internal conflict within the U.S.

Donald Trump’s policies have recently been raising more and more questions not only among his opponents but also among members of the Republican Party. As Andriy Gorodnitsky notes, the actions of the 47th U.S. president currently have nothing to do with protecting American interests.

Instead, they demonstrate an overt favoritism toward Russia and a desire to pursue his own business ventures at the expense of international stability.

According to Gorodnitsky, Trump has completely failed in his economic policy. His decisions to impose tariffs on his own partners and key players, such as China, are drawing ridicule even among Republicans. Changing tariff rates nearly every week demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of basic economic processes.

The situation with the purchase of 300,000 metric tons of Russian diesel fuel deserves special attention. This move is not intended to help Americans. The U.S. sells similar volumes of fuel abroad every day and could simply restrict exports to saturate the domestic market.

Instead, Trump has allegedly negotiated the purchase of Russian oil at a discounted price in order to resell it through private companies at a substantial profit. This will allow him and his inner circle to earn billions of dollars, while the fuel itself can be sold anywhere in the world.

A political expert directly calls Trump a pro-Russian agent who has been purposefully bailing out Russia’s budget for the past six months. It is precisely thanks to his actions in the Black Sea straits and the lifting of restrictions that the price of Russian Urals crude has exceeded that of the benchmark Brent. In addition, sanctions continue to be lifted from Russian energy giants such as Lukoil and Rosneft.

Gorodnitsky considers Trump’s most cynical initiative to be his intention to transfer $100 billion in frozen assets to Russia. Officially, this could be presented as funding for the reconstruction of occupied Ukrainian territories carried out by the Russians themselves.

This is no joke right now. This is actually what is being discussed and is a very high priority for Trump. The nonsense he’s peddling has absolutely no basis in common sense,
he emphasized.

Behind this likely lie Trump’s personal interests as a real estate developer who dreams of large-scale projects in occupied Crimea. Trump’s actions find support only among far-right and pro-Russian politicians in Europe, such as the leader of the “Alternative for Germany” party, Alice Weidel, or the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, which once again underscores the marginal nature of his course.

Today, Trump is trapped in an artificial information bubble. His inner circle consists of people who are afraid of upsetting him and provide only information that aligns with his illusions.

This is a disaster because this world is being painted for him by people who, to put it mildly, aren’t very smart. If Trump likes Russia, they’ll say we need to support Russia,
– noted Gorodnitsky.

He simply ignores real intelligence data from the security services because it doesn’t interest him. Because of this incompetence, even his closest allies are beginning to distance themselves from him. Marco Rubio and J.D. Vance are trying to avoid being associated with this disastrous policy.

According to a political expert, there are backroom agreements: if Trump is impeached, Vance will take his place, and Republican lobbyists will be able to engage in constructive dialogue with him. In contrast, no one wants anything to do with Trump himself anymore.

Trump’s inner circle fully understands the inevitability of political collapse. Speaker Mike Johnson is already openly warning Republicans of turbulent times ahead should they lose the by-elections.

It has gotten to the point where special legal briefings are being held for party members on:

  • how to behave during criminal investigations;
  • what to tell investigators;
  • what data to delete from their computers.

Hypothetically, Trump could call on his far-right or even far-left supporters to take action, spreading a message about storming the White House. This is entirely possible, but the odds aren’t very high. It would be very difficult to pull this off twice,
– Gorodnitsky noted.

The authorities have seriously prepared for any provocations: government districts are being cordoned off with metal barriers, and tens of thousands of police officers are being deployed. A successful uprising this time would require an entire army, which Trump’s fringe supporters do not have.
